“we look forward to welcoming you in Milan” the 17th January 2020.

The most remarkable sentence I've ever heard and the best late birthday present. To be 26 years old and to be able to study for a Master's degree the following year is my ideal plan and God has answered my prayers. Allow me to explain how I was accepted to the Institute and it's scholarship. In the second week of March I started to apply to some universities in the UK (Scotland Borders and London) and Italy. In the UK I applied to the University of Westminster -Ma Fashion Business and Management-, Herriot Watt University -MSc Ethics in Fashion-, University of Bradford -MSc Project Plan and Management-, Glasgow Caledonian University -MSc Fashion and Lifestyle Marketing. In Italy, I applied to the Milan Fashion Institute -Fashion Direction: Fashion Brand and Communication- and the University of Bologna -MA Fashion Brand, Culture and Management-. I have some considerations before choosing a major and a university, which are a scholarship programme and a curriculum.

GCU offered me the first unconditional letter, followed by the University of Westminster. The next step for both is to apply for a scholarship. GCU requires you to upload a 2-3 minute video instead of a motivation letter and the University of Westminster requires you to send a paper document which costs around ฿3000 with DHL. Before I decided to make a video and send hard copy documents, I received an invitation email from Milan Fashion Institute Admission for an interview via Skype with the director on 17 March 2019 at 3 pm Italy time and 8 pm Bangkok time. I finish my work at 7pm, which means I have 45 minutes to prepare and sit properly. In short, I had my interview with the programme director. I spoke in Italian - not to mention that it's been a decade since I've been fluent - and later in English. The interview basically consisted of my motivation letter plus some questions from her and lasted 30 minutes. I asked her when I would hear the news and it was a week later for acceptance and another week for a scholarship. I am waiting patiently and hopefully for these 2 weeks.

The director was kind and full of surprises. I was in the office toilet reading my 2 emails saying that I had been accepted plus his scholarship. For your information, MFI offered 2 scholarships for each selected country and in Indonesia I am one of the two lucky ones. I have been prepared and trained for other failures, but not for success when it is needed. The study will start next winter, my first winter. Family and friends congratulated me and were proud of me, while I tried to collect myself, how this impossible and somehow too good to be true could have happened to me in less than a month, when in the previous years I had to wait for months and months and months and months and months and months and months and months of "we are sorry to inform you that we are not going to continue with your scholarship application, etc." Finally, I took the MFI Scholarship Offer Letter in consideration of school and career development by MFI and its collaboration with all well-known fashion retail brands and media. Such as Condé Nast (Vogue, GQ, Vanity Fair etc).

Having dreams and making them come true is a must for me, because we are human and we live to the fullest. Countless tips from colleagues are nothing if you don't start. An essay is the most important. You do not have to write by showing how smart you are, but how truly motivated you are to choose the programme. Really share your remarkable relevant experiences and future plans and ask your friends or trusted colleagues to check your essay. Either to check your grammar or your narrative structure. You do your best, God does the rest. I could say 100% that if you are really sincere about what you expect, for the best or for the worst, then God will give you the best. I did not expect to go back to Italy, get a scholarship and do a Masters in Fashion. Because if it's meant to be, it will be, and hard work never lets you down. Go make your dreams come true and good luck!
